The informal affair will include food, music, charity, and fun as we teach each other tricks and have a good time. About Me My name is Erin Keller. I am seventeen years old and live in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. I am a senior at the Selinsgrove High School. I have been riding my unicycle for seven years. However, my skill is very limited. The Event The gathering will be casual. It will be held at a local park in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, which is located on the Susquehanna River. Sunbury is a small town, 50 miles north of Harrisburg. The unicycling will begin at a time that will be announced on a later date. Music, food, and festivities will be provided. The Charity One of the most important traits that attribute an unicyclist is his or her balance. Those who suffer from Meniere’s disease lack this quality. Meniere’s disease is a very disturbing illness having symptoms of hearing loss, pressure in the ear, tinnitus, severe imbalance and vertigo. Vertigo is described as a sudden loss of normal equilibrium, which causes difficulty focusing and nausea. Hearing loss commonly fluctuates between days, but often leads to permanent hearing less. Tinnitus is expressed as a motor-like whirring noise present in the affected ear. Sufferers have multiple episodes lasting several months at a time. The majority of adults with Meniere’s disease can be treated and often their hearing loss subsides. Younger patients have symptoms, which are more severe and resistant to treatment. I cannot think of a better cause for unicyclists than assisting others to eventually be cured and regain their sense of balance. Spectators of the unicycling will be encouraged to donate funds. This money will in turn be collected and sent to the American Society for Deaf Children. Your level of experience is not important, just your willingness to help such a cause. Twenty years a Mecca for mountain bikers, Slickrock is only now being discovered for its mountain unicycling potential. Virtually infinite traction (the entire landscape is red rock), trials course obstacles in every direction, scenic beauty, and good old MUniphile commoraderie make this a real treat. | 2003 Apr. 4 - 5: | Midwest Regional Unicycling Competition, Rochelle, IL, US The Unicycle Uni-versity will be the hosts of the next Midwest Regional Unicycle Competition which will be held April 4-5, 2003 in Rochelle, IL. Rochelle is a small farm town of about 9500 fine midwestern folk located in northern Illinois about 1½ hours west of Chicago and ½ hour south of Rockford. We'll have open gym on Friday night with competition to follow on Saturday. Bring your best Standard Skills and Artistic Freestyle routines but expect a lot more. We'll include fun and games, a mini-trials course, fun hockey tourneys, great food in abundance, and fantastic views of the midwest's exciting corn and soybean fields. Sorry, no mountain downhill events in Rochelle. If you are a train buff, Rochelle does have a claim to fame for you. Over 100 trains per day pass through Rochelle and we are home to one of the very few double diamond crossings in the country. We have a very nice train park and museum in town which seems to always be bustling with activity. It’s a time to break the winter cabin fever and get out to the pleasant March climates of Moab to ride and socialize with other Muni riders in the scenic red rock wonderland of Southern Utah. It’s a place to test and expand your limits, hone your skills, and learn new techniques from other riders. The entire Slickrock area is red sandstone rock, which means you’ll have traction to climb and descend angles you never thought possible. The landscape is a trials course. For non-trials riders it’s just as much fun figuring out how to avoid the obstacles. In either case there’s plenty to keep you entertained.
