Summary
In 1987, UNICON went to Tokyo, Japan! It was combined with the 10th annual All Japan Unicycle Meet, and was the largest gathering of unicyclists ever held, with 851 registered riders, about 65 of which were from other countries. 11 countries were represented; with Spain, Korea, Australia, and Chile welcomed for the first time. Host: The Japan Unicycling Association, run by Koji Sugano and Hiroshi Masuga. The event was large, incredibly well organized, and everything happened right on schedule. Imagine running a 400 meter race for over 800 participants; they did! Many racing records were broken, including the Guinness 100 meter mark by John Foss. In artistic events, riders could enter Standard Skill or Freestyle, but all had to do a compulsory routine as well. The compulsory score was 50% of the total score. Riders from this side of the world had an unforgettable experience, which included some unicycle touring around downtown Tokyo and staying in a Japanese style "Ryokan" Inn.
