The 10^th World Unicycling Championships and Convention

Announcement:

The International Unicycling Federation (IUF), the Chinese State Sports General Association, and the China Unicycle Association announce that UNICON X will be held at the Shijingshan District of Beijing from August 1 to 8, 2000. Many top riders from all over the world are expected to participate.

Planned Competitive Events:

All IUF track events -- coasting, downhill gliding, MUni, 10K marathon, obstacle course.
Artistic events -- standard skills; individual, pairs, and group freestyle
Team Sports -- unicycle hockey and unicycle basketball championships.

Planned Noncompetitive Events:

Unicycle workshops and tours in historic places (possibly Tiananmen Square). There also will be optional tours to some of China's more exotic places at extremely reasonable prices.

Unplanned Events:

We know that some of the best moments from past Unicons have occurred outside the planned events, when extremely talented people from many different countries share their time and equipment. All efforts are being made to provide the facilities and arrange the schedules to offer this opportunity at Unicon X.

Meals:

Both breakfast and lunch will be available at $7 per day. Chinese food is very diversified. Western style food is available nearby.

Travel & Hotel:

The hosts are offering special rates from some key cities around the world. We suggest that you go a few days earlier and stay a couple of days after the Unicon. The headquarters of the Unicon will be at the Jing Yan Hotel, across the street from the sports center. Expect to pay between $23 to $33 per room per night.

Transportation:

The airport is an hour away from the hotel, but taxis cost around 15 cents per kilometer. Expect to pay between $8 (if you come in a group) to $15 (if by yourself). There is a subway station near the hotel that will take you downtown. Yes, unicycles are allowed in the subway.
