The Schwinn 1970's Unicycle

This is the original Schwinn unicycle, made from 1967 to about 1980. They are heavy, but they last forever. A lot of them are still on the road.

Schwinn Fork
  • The bolt going through the seat holds the seatpost firmly in place, but does not allow the fine height adjustment that some people prefer.
  • Skateboard grip tape on the fork crowns can help keep your foot from slipping when using the fork as a footrest.
  • The 24" model requires a 24" x 1¾ tire. A 24" x 1.75" tire will not work.
  • The rim is made of a double layer of steel for extra strength.
Schwinn Hub
  • Those were the cotter pin years
  • 28 spokes
  • simple design
  • The cotter pins often bring about the demise of a 1970's Schwinn. Eventually the axle surface that the pins rub against wears down and the pins go too far through the crank and won't tighten.
