Building an Ultimate Wheel
- Ask the bike shop to hold a 24 inch rim that they would have trashed.
- Take out hub and spokes. (if needed)
- pound rim straight (if needed)
- cut from .75 inch plywood a circle to fit inside rim.
- cut out slot big enough for air valve
- attach pedal holding hardware. (this is the hardest part).
Make sure this is centered. Tom Miller's (of the Unicycle Factory) ultimate wheel kit comes with
a T bar with .5 inch threaded holes for pedals (left and right) ,
instructions, and a bunch of nails (I used screws).
- place plywood in rim (position air valve slot) and drill holes
in the plywood edge through the spoke holes. Screw into place
with short (1 inch or less) flat head screws.
- put the rubber protection band around rim to protect the tub from
the screw heads and put on the tub and tire and inflate.
- Add .5 inch thread pedals
