The Schwinns are definitely tough to beat for comfort and reliability. I
especially love the seat, although it tends to rip up in a hurry when it
bounces on the asphalt. Back in the days of my youth, before the earth's
crust cooled, my gymnastics/unicycle coach devised a "safety belt" of sorts
to keep our team's unicycle seats in pristine condition: soft nylon strap
around the waist with lots of slack in front of tummy, loop goes under the
back of the seat with just enough slack that you're not aware that it's
there while you're riding. When you fall, your hands are free to break YOUR
fall; the loop beneath the seat is sufficient to keep the unicycle with you.
I've had my current uni since 1968, and the seat is still in great shape.
The chrome could sure use some serious work, though . . .

What I'd also love to get my hands on would be one of those old Schwinn
unicycle tires (they actually said "UNICYCLE" on the sidewall), which ran at
about 65 PSI and had about a 1-cm smooth stripe to run on (no "knobbies").
Sure made turning and spinning a whole lot easier! Anybody seen those
around lately?

I was at the bike shop here in Cincinnati and I saw they had a
24 inch Schwinn uni on display. It turns out that they have about
6 or 7 in storage, too.

So it seems that there are some new Schwinns out there if you ask around,
even though they have not been in production for a number of years.

Cost: ~ $140 not cheap but it looks very well made.

Maybe we can get a quantity discount.
Anyone interested?
