I foud that riding up off the seat for a little while relieves general
pressure. In fact, I learned how to ride sans seat _because_ I felt the need
to get up off the saddle on long rides.
(PS- I'm actually a woman, so I shouldn't be advising men about their
goonies or whatever. I'd just like to say that it hurts us too. I know
it's not the same, but there are lots of nerve endings down there (esp. in
jeans, owch!).

On this note of learning things for convinience sake, I'm learning to ride
one footed under similar conditions. I'm one with knee problems and I need
to pick up on foot occasionally to relieve stress. Also, my hiking boots'
treads get stuck on the pedal, so I've learned to pick up that foot to
reposition.

I've stopped going to practise where we work on specific tricks. Instead I
just ride everywhere, very handy, and I figure that after a while I'll have
learned many things just 'cuz.

What do you all think? Is it an efficient learning style? What should I
practise that riding alone won't teach me?

Thanks.
